Strategy 4: Ideas not art

One of the core ideas in sketchnoting is "Ideas not art." The whole point is to focus on the idea and not focus on making the most beautiful thing ever.

I know, I know. So many of the sketchnotes you see online are these stunning constructions which ARE art, but that's a bonus. The point of sketchnotes is to help you remember things later, and make the notetaking process more engaging. That will occur whether the final notes look stunning or not.

As we prepare to look at the skills that can improve your sketchnote drawings, it's important to remember "Ideas Not Art". It influences the approach and style we'll use when it comes to drawing. We want to focus on being recognizable and not being technically perfect.
